Is My Vulva Normal?
Because our sex organs aren’t visible to us, and because many of us had our hands swatted away from our vulvas when we touched ourselves as children, we carry shame about whether or not our vulvas are normal. Without a mirror it’s hard to see our vulvas and many of us aren’t encouraged to look as kids. Betty Dodson herself thought she had deformed inner labia until she was 35 because of too much childhood masterbastion because she’d never seen another vulva besides her own. It was looking at different women’s vulvas in a nudey magazine that healed her thinking about this. And thanks to the work Betty did during her life, it’s becoming widespread knowledge that however our vulvas look is normal.
There are 6 main styles that we tend to fit into but the variations are endless. Betty named the vulva styles after architecture: the classical, the gothic, the modern, the renaissance, the baroque, and the heart. We can also add to this the pillow pussy and the clamshell pussy. And keep in mind that we may have variations of a couple different styles: the elongated clit of the gothic and the ruffles of the renaissance. However you look down there is normal, and you are beautiful. Color variation is also normal from dark browns, to deep purples, to carnation pinks, to almost white, to taupe, maroon, to ombre on the edges, all of who we are and what we look like is normal, stunningly beautiful in face.
Take a look at this article highlighting the drawings Betty Dodson did of her girlfriends representing the various different vulva styles.
